Aromatherapy
The therapeutic use of plant oils
About Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is both an art form and a science, and it is one I have loved practising for many years. At its heart, it is the therapeutic use of plant oils. As the aromatherapy pioneer Patricia Davis wrote in 1988, essential oils have the potential to affect all levels of human health: bodily, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. That holistic quality is exactly why aromatherapy sits so naturally alongside the other healing work I offer.
Essential oils are highly aromatic substances formed within plants by special cells. At that stage they are known as essence, and it is only once they have been extracted from the plant that they become an essential oil. They are extraordinarily concentrated, which is why they are always diluted before use, and it is that concentration that carries their therapeutic power.
In my work, I love being creative with blending. Choosing which oils to use is an intuitive process, guided by you, by the energy of the day, and by whatever feels most needed in that moment. No two blends are quite the same, because no two people or sessions are quite the same, and there is a real joy in that.
I currently use essential oils to enrich and deepen the atmosphere of my treatment space, layering scent into the experience of every session in a way that feels warm, calming and nourishing.
Coming soon
In the future I hope to offer facial treatments that bring together the therapeutic benefits of essential oil and the healing qualities of facial massage and crystals. I am excited at the prospect and I will let you know when I am ready to launch.
There are many contraindications to using essential oils so please consult with a Professional Aromatherapist for safety guidelines.
